England have world class players and it's the manager's job to get the best out of those players. We saw it for 35 minutes in the first game but yesterday, we were awful.

England v Slovenia (Tue, 20:00 BST)

    Cesc Fabregas
Former Spain midfielder on BBC One

England don't take the game in a certain way. Spain have a clear plan, you see the way they want to play with the high line. It can go right or wrong but you can't see a clear thing with what they want to do.

ZackJones: This best third place qualifying situation is clearly encouraging teams who won their first game to settle for a draw in their second games. Not a positive change.

  5. 'Netherlands dropped so deep it was almost impossible to attack'published at 22:25

    22:25

    FT: Netherlands 0-0 France

    Mario Melchiot
Former Netherlands defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

The problem for the Netherlands is that when Wout Weghorst came on the side was playing on the edge of their own box. How are you going to get him up the field and into the box? They dropped back so far in the end that it was almost impossible to attack France in the end.

  6. 'England lack the structure and balance of France'published at 22:24

    22:24

    FT: Netherlands 0-0 France

    Julien Laurens
French football expert on BBC Radio 5 Live

The difference between France and England is that we win, or at least we go far with a chance to win. Three finals in the last four big tournaments.

What England lack is the structure and the balance that this French team has. France have that well drilled 4-4-2 and some of the players in it tonight were not there in the 2018 World Cup winning side. I suspect Didier Deschamps will keep that approach going forwards, especially in the big games.

  7. 'France controlled the game but that's not very sexy'published at 22:23

    22:23

    FT: Netherlands 0-0 France

    Julien Laurens
French football expert on BBC Radio 5 Live

It is not good for France when the game is played so quickly, so their game was to try and control the tempo.

You saw the Dutch at their most dangerous in the first half in the transitions going too quick, Adrien Rabiot takes too long to tuck in and Aurelien Tchouameni was isloated against Xavi Simons and Cody Gakpo. For most of the game they controlled it so well but the problem is that it is not very sexy.

  8. Two happy managerspublished at 22:22

    22:22

    FT: Netherlands 0-0 France

France boss Didier Deschamps and the Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman don't seem too upset about the goalless draw.

Both of them are bidding to become the second person to win the Euros as a player and manager. Berti Vogts of Germany was the first.

  9. 'France were not ruthless enough'published at 22:21

    22:21

    FT: Netherlands 0-0 France

    Julien Laurens
French football expert on BBC Radio 5 Live

France used to be so ruthless in both boxes. They used to take their own chances and be so good at denying the opposition any. Tonight they did not concede many chances. Apart from the goal ruled out they did not concede anything of note. Tonight they were not ruthless enough.

The Netherlands seem together. I like the balance of the team. They're experienced and they're difficult to play against.

  11. 'Questions will be about Mbappe'published at 22:18

    22:18

    FT: Netherlands 0-0 France

    John Bennett
BBC World Service Sport at Red Bull Arena

Two games and only one own goal scored for France. That missing finishing touch will be a concern for Didier Deschamps especially when we don’t know when Kylian Mbappe will be ready to get back on the pitch.

Yes he was an officially a sub today but he was clearly never going to be used and I thought his reaction when he took off the mask after the pre-match warm up was very telling. It’s clearly not comfortable for him to play in, he’s not used to it and he’s still in pain.

He may not have played today but the post match questions will focus on Mbappe.

  13. 'France haven't been great'published at 22:17

    22:17

    FT: Netherlands 0-0 France

    Wayne Rooney
Former England striker on BBC One

France haven't been great but they've got the players to go far in this competition. They'll be fine and have the team that can go far.

  14. 'Dumfries was in a position to put the keeper off'published at 22:16

    22:16

    FT: Netherlands 0-0 France

    Mario Melchiot
Former Netherlands defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

This is the perfect time to say I am against VAR, I don't like it! Joking aside I think normally when someone is stood in such a position [as Dumfries], you think is he in the line of the ball? No. But the position he was in he could put the keeper off. If this goal was scored against us I would have said the same thing.

  15. Postpublished at 22:15

    22:15

    FT: Netherlands 0-0 France

N'Golo Kante has been named Uefa's official man of the match in both of France's Euro 2024 games.

He hadn't played for France for almost two years before featuring in their warm-up friendlies for this tournament.

  16. Postpublished at 22:13

France have not won any of the seven games they have played without Kylian Mbappe in the starting line-up in the past two years.

Kante is the perfect example of an all-round midfielder. He defends really well but he makes runs forward too.

  18. Extra TV chat...published at 22:11

In case you've been watching on BBC One and think the guys in the studio have finished chatting about the game, it's actually still going on. You can watch it at the top of this page or on BBC iPlayer.

  19. 'Kante was everywhere'published at 22:09

    22:09

    FT: Netherlands 0-0 France

    Cesc Fabregas
Former Spain midfielder on BBC One

Kante was everywhere. He plays forward and keeps moving, pass and go. The way he has improved in football, always moving forward. He was the man of the match without a doubt.

  20. 'It was fine from France'published at 22:08

    22:08

    FT: Netherlands 0-0 France

    Julien Laurens
French football expert on BBC Radio 5 Live

Overall the French performance was OK, it was fine. I wish it had been a little bit better finishing-wise from the French, no-ones knows how Antoine Griezmann didn't at least score one of the two chances he had.

Of course Kylian Mbappe was not there and it showed, France have not won any of the last six where he has not started, which is telling.
